The owner of this 2009 Audi R8 wanted the 4.2 FSI V8 to sound as special as it looks, so we fitted a titanium valved cat-back exhaust, completed in Mascot.
There is no such thing as a quick exhaust swap on a mid-engined car. To reach the system we removed the rear bumper and the rear crash bar, then dropped the factory cat-back out from under the aluminium spaceframe. The second photo shows just how much of the car comes apart before the new system can go in.
The system itself is titanium throughout: an X-pipe centre section, twin vacuum-actuated valves, and TIG-welded joints finished in that burnt-blue only titanium gives you. Quiet enough for the morning commute with the valves closed, properly loud with them open.
